Jom Local (“we”, “our”, “us”) is operated by Battut Sdn Bhd. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Jom Local mobile application (“the App”), how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the App you agree to this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you create an account using Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email address from those providers. We store this to identify your account and personalise your experience.
Location
The App requests access to your device location to show nearby places on the map and to surface relevant local recommendations. Location is used only while the App is in use (foreground) and is never shared with third parties for advertising purposes.
Content you create
Reviews, photos, saved places, and trip plans you create in the App are stored in our database and associated with your account.
Usage data
We collect crash reports and basic usage diagnostics (via Sentry) to identify and fix bugs. This data is anonymised and does not identify you personally.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide and improve the App’s features
- Show you relevant places and personalised recommendations
- Allow you to save favourite spots and share them with friends
- Power the AI trip-planning assistant (Kak Lin)
- Send you optional in-app notifications about your saved places
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by their own privacy policy:

4. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer. Anonymised usage data may be retained indefinitely.
5. Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information at any time. You can:
- Edit your profile name within the App
- Request deletion of your account and data — see our Delete Account page
- Request a copy of your data by emailing support@jomlocal.com
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
7. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase security rules, and limited staff access to production data. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by an in-app notice. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
