Dataran Empangan Timah Tasoh
The esplanade at Timah Tasoh is where most people actually stop when they come to see the dam. It looks north across open water to the hills on the Thai border, and because the reservoir is wide and shallow the light does interesting things early and late in the day.
The square itself is simple — lawns, walkways, somewhere to sit — but it is kept up well, and it is the launch point for boat trips out onto the reservoir. Expect somewhere around RM70 for a boat taking six people, arranged on the spot rather than booked ahead.
Come early if you want it quiet. It is a popular local spot at weekends and in the late afternoon, when families arrive for the breeze coming off the water. There is little shade once the sun is up, so a morning visit is more comfortable as well as emptier.
It is about half an hour north of Kangar on the Bukit Manek road, and it pairs naturally with the freshwater fish sanctuary on the same lake.
