Taman Bukit Lagi, Perlis

Bukit Lagi is the hill in the middle of Kangar, and the public park at its foot is where the town exercises. Lawns, shade and a jogging circuit at the bottom; a short trail to the top for anyone who wants the view.

The climb is genuinely short — the loop is well under a kilometre, with roughly 50 metres of ascent — but steep enough in places to raise a sweat in Perlis humidity. Most people are up in fifteen to twenty minutes. At the summit there is the "Bukit Lagi" sign everyone photographs, and a view over the town roofs to the paddy plain and the limestone hills beyond it.

The park is open at all hours and free. Early morning and the hour before dusk are when it is busiest and coolest; the middle of the day is punishing on the exposed sections.

Being in the town centre, it is the easiest thing on this list to fit into a spare hour.
