Patung Ketam Besar Seberang Ramai

The giant crab at Seberang Ramai is Kuala Perlis's most photographed object, and it is exactly what it sounds like: an outsized crab sculpture on the waterfront, facing the sea.

The choice of subject is not arbitrary. Kuala Perlis is a fishing town, crab is what it is known for, and the statue is the town's shorthand for itself. It stands on the promenade with the strait behind it, which is why almost every photograph of it is taken at sunset — the sky does the work.

Around it there is a coastal walkway to stroll, benches, and the sea breeze that is the real reason locals come in the evening. Seafood stalls nearby cover the obvious follow-on: grilled fish, seafood noodles, crab done several ways.

It gets busy at weekends and on public holidays with local families, which is when it is liveliest and least peaceful. It is a five-minute detour from the Langkawi ferry terminal.
