Ladang Kenaf

The kenaf plantation in the Chuping valley is over 200 hectares of open field with Bukit Chabang standing behind it — the kind of wide agricultural landscape Perlis has and most of the peninsula does not.

Kenaf is a hibiscus relative grown for fibre, used for rope, sacking and cord. It takes 120 to 150 days to mature and flowers white, pink or purple, and it is the flowering that draws visitors: the blooms open early and close as the heat comes up.

That makes timing the whole visit. Between roughly 6.45am and 8.45am the field is in flower and the light is low; arrive at eleven and you are looking at a green field.

Entry and parking are free. It sits near the Chuping Valley development, about twenty minutes by road from Bukit Ketri station if you are arriving by ETS.
