Gua Kelam

Gua Kelam is the recreational park wrapped around Perlis's best-known cave, at the edge of Kaki Bukit about 33km north of Kangar. Most people come for the through-cave walkway, but the park around it — streams, shaded picnic areas and short forest paths — is what turns a twenty-minute cave walk into an easy half day.

The cave itself runs roughly 370 metres, entered on a suspended wooden walkway above an underground stream. It was a tin-mining route long before it was an attraction, and the evidence is still in place: trolley tracks on the floor, and charcoal writing left by the Chinese miners who worked it.

Entry costs a couple of ringgit and helmets are provided. The walkway stays wet year-round, so grippy shoes help. Mornings are cooler and quieter than weekend afternoons.

Wang Kelian View Point and Perlis State Park are both a short drive further north, which makes this a sensible first stop rather than a destination on its own.
