Floating Market Perlis
Perlis's floating market runs on the JPS ponds at Pengkalan Asam, between Kangar and Kuala Perlis — a row of boats moored along the bank, each one a kitchen. It is a deliberate borrowing of the southern Thai idea, at a much smaller scale than the ones across the border.
There are usually somewhere over ten boats trading, and the draw is food rather than souvenirs: laksa Perlis, pulut udang, oden, lokching and the local kuih. Prices are village prices, not tourist ones.
It is a weekend operation — generally Saturday and Sunday, from mid-morning into the evening — and it has had quiet spells, so it is worth checking it is running before making a special trip. Parking is free across the road, though it is a walk from the far end.
The Kota Kayang Museum is close by, which makes an easy pairing on a Saturday morning.
