玻璃市州立公园

Taman Negeri Perlis was the first state park established on the peninsula, and it runs for some 36km along the Thai border in the northwest corner of the state. It takes in the Nakawan limestone range along with the Mata Ayer and Wang Mu forest reserves — a narrow, hilly strip of forest that feels a long way from the paddy country around Kangar.

The caves are the main draw. Wang Burma in particular is a genuine half-day undertaking: working through its network of passages takes roughly three to four hours, past stalactite formations and the bats, centipedes and scorpions that live in them. A guide is compulsory for the caves and is arranged at the park's visitor centre.

Entry to the ecotourism complex at Wang Kelian is inexpensive — around RM2 for Malaysian adults and RM5 for foreign visitors, with reduced rates for children. Accommodation on site is deliberately basic: wooden chalets and dorm beds bookable through the visitor centre. There is no restaurant, though staff can arrange meals with notice.

There is no public transport to the park. Most visitors drive; a taxi from Kangar is the usual fallback.
